Sucked In

Have you heard of a little book series called A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin?  The first book was released in 1996 and Book Five just came out in July 2011.  My husband read the books some years ago and I totally disregarded them based on the genre.  Swordfighting, pillaging and cries of "Off with his head" was not on my radar at the time.  I was more into weepy Oprah recommendations and parenting magazines.  Fast forward a decade and my reading tastes have changed somewhat.  Plus one could not ignore the renewed interest in these books due to the release of the much anticipated HBO series.  I abhor watching movies based on books without having read them first.  Everyone knows the books are better.  So here I am plowing through these huge (avg 800-900 pages each) novels and summer came crashing to a halt today with the return of my kids to school and soccer.  No more laying on the beach or swinging in the hammock.  Damn.  So if I finish the books before winter maybe HBO will release the first season and I can hole up and watch the series.  It looks like the cinematography is beautiful.

And it stars one of my favorite actors, Sean Bean.

Just trying to look at the bright side of another summer passing me by.
